Australia Boosts Imports from Iran
TEHRAN (FNA)- The value of Australia's imports from Iran reached $200 million in 2010, showing a 269% growth compared with the previous year, a report said.
Australia imported about $200 million worth of goods from Iran in 2010, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Sunday.
According to a fact sheet of trade statistics published by the Australian department, the country's imports from the Islamic Republic has witnessed a 269-percent growth year on year compared to 2009.
Liquefied propane, butane, floor coverings, fruits, nuts, and tobacco were the major exported goods to Australia in 2010, the report said.
Iran was ranked 53rd among the main exporters to Australia, and stood in the 50th place among the main importers from Australia in 2010.
The Islamic Republic also imported about $180 million worth of goods from Australia in 2010. The main imported products included meat, medicines, wheat, and wool.
Earlier in July, Kazzem Jalali, the rapporteur of Iran's parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, met with First Assistant Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs David Stuart.
The two discussed ways to bolster economic, political, and cultural cooperation between Tehran and Canberra, and called for more interactions.
