Pilots of jets about to land at Domodedovo undergo laser attacks.
MOSCOW, July 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The pilots of the airliners, which were
about to land at the Domodedovo airport, underwent two attempts at laser
blinding overnight to Tuesday, a source in the Moscow law enforcement
agencies said on Tuesday.
The first laser attack was delivered at about 11.30 p.m. on Monday and
the second one at 01.40 a.m. on Tuesday. The laser blinders were staying
in western Moscow in the area of Kosygin Street and the Leninsky Avenue.
The police are searching for the laser offenders.
Tens of laser blinding cases have been reported since the middle of
the previous year in Russia, the Federal Air Transport Agency reported.
The laser attacks result in the crews to be temporarily blinded and
threaten with air crashes.
"Since the middle of 2010 five laser blinding cases have been
reported, and 30 similar cases from the beginning of 2011," the Federal
Air Transport Agency said last Friday, July 22.
Two airliners Tu-204 and Boeing-737, which were about to land at the
Vnukovo airport on July 5, underwent major laser attacks, but landed
successfully.
On July 22, the Federal Security Service reported about the detention
of a Muscovite, "who blinded several times the crews of the airliners in
the area of the Vnukovo airport."
