Gwancheon gov't complex to have dozen new tenants

SEOUL, July 26 (Yonhap) -- A dozen administrative bodies will move into the government building complex in Gwacheon, south of Seoul, in phases starting next year, as economy-related ministries there will be relocated to a new administrative town under construction in central South Korea, officials said Tuesday.
The city of Sejong, about 150 kilometers south of Seoul, will house dozens of ministries and administrative agencies, including the Prime Minister's Office and the finance ministry, starting next year.
Officials at the home affairs ministry said that agencies scheduled to move to Gwacheon will include the Korea Communications Commission, the National Science and Technology Commission, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, while the Justice Ministry will remain there.
"The government has decided to utilize the Gwacheon complex's facilities by bringing administrative agencies scattered around Seoul and Gyeonggi areas into the complex," a ministry official said. "It will allow the city of Gwacheon to maintain its identity as an administrative center and help the central government reduce rent expenses."
Meanwhile, the Central Government Complex in downtown Seoul, where the foreign, unification and home affairs ministries are located, will additionally house nine ministries and government commissions, including the gender equality ministry.
