Bashkir leader advocates broader powers for regions.

UFA, July 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Bashkiria's Head Rustem Khamitov called
for redistribution of powers from the federal authorities to regions.
"We are working in a rather tight system of coordinates set by the
federal government," Khamitov said at a press conference in Ufa on
Wednesday, July 27, summing up the results of his first year as Bashkiria'
s president.
"In the last six months, as I worked in the Presidium of the Russian
State Council, I tried to bring it home to the state leaders that federal
relations need to be revised in order to transfer broader powers to
regions and municipalities," he said.
