Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian patriarchs to celebrate Baptism of Russia Day.

KIEV, July 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Day of Baptism of Russia will be
celebrated in the capitals of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus on Thursday,
July 28.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will lead a liturgy in the
Kiev Monastery of the Caves on this day.
Traditionally, thousands of people come to the service conducted
outdoors in the Cathedral Square. The celebrations have been held in Kiev
since 2008 when the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Prince Vladimir's
people and troops in the Dnepr.
Patriarch Ilia of Georgia is participating in the celebrations for the
first time this year.
After the liturgy, Kirill will lay flowers to the monument to the
victims of mass famine in the 1930s and the war memorial at the Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier.
Day of Baptism of Russia was designated as a special memorial day in
Ukraine in 2008. In Russia, a new memorable date - Day of Baptism of
Russia - was established by the Federation Council, the upper house of
parliament, in 2010.
In the Orthodox calendar, July 28 (July 15 old style) is marked as the
day of Saint Prince Vladimir the Baptist of Russia. July 28 has been
"marked red in the calendar" since July 28 with the blessing of Patriarch
Kirill.
