Seoul shares down 0.22 pct in late-morning trade

SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.22 percent lower late Friday morning due to continued U.S. debt woes, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 4.76 points to 2,151.09 as of 11:20 a.m.
Market bellwether Samsung Electronics jumped 1.19 percent after reporting a higher-than-expected second-quarter net. The world's second-largest chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor soared 4.46 percent on reports that Taiwanese companies are considering cutting their dynamic random access memory (DRAM) production.
Kia Motors, South Korea's second-largest automaker, rallied 0.77 percent after posting a 66.8 rise in its second-quarter net profit.
Asiana Airlines plunged 2.26 percent after one of its cargo planes crashed into the sea the previous day.
The local currency was trading at 1,052.5 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., down 1 won from Thursday's close.
