Kazakhstan urges Uzbekistan to explain arrest of Kazakh alpinists.

ASTANA, July 29 (Itar-Tass) -- Kazakhstan's embassy in Tashkent has
sent a note to the Uzbekistani foreign ministry with a request to provide
explanations of the arrest of a group of Kazakh mountain climbers, Press
Secretary of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Ilyas Omarov told journalists on
Friday.
On July 10, a group of 12 Kazakh tourists, including four adults and
eight teenagers, began ascending towards the Sairansky mount in the South
Kazakhstan region. On July 25, reports came that the group had not reached
the destination in due time. According to later reports, the mount
climbers were detained by Uzbek border guards on charges of violating the
state border and of trafficking arms.
The teenagers are expected to be sent home on July 30, while the
adults will stay in Uzbekistan until investigation and court trials are
over.
