KALININGRAD, July 30 (Itar-Tass) - Festivities devoted to Russia's
Navy Day will start in Kaliningrad, Russia's westernmost region on the
Baltic Sea, on Sunday. The holiday is traditionally marked on the last
Sunday in July.
An exposition of naval equipment and hardware will be put on view at
Kaliningrad's main square, which will also be the venue for military and
sport events, concerts by the Song and Dance group of the Baltic Fleet,
the orchestra of the headquarters of the Baltic Fleet and various song and
dance groups of Kaliningrad.
The elite and pride of the Baltic Fleet - the marines - will
demonstrate close fight techniques. Everybody will be able to measure
their strengths by lifting weights and pull over rope.
The Baltic Fleet's rowing team on sea yachts will show exhibition
performances on the Pregola River.
Russian Navy veterans, participants in the Great Patriotic War,
warriors of the Kaliningrad garrison, representatives of governing bodies
and public organizations will lay wreaths and flowers at the monument to
the legendary submariner Alexander Marinesko and the memorial to Baltic
Fleet sailors who died during the Great Patriotic War.
A parade of warships will be held at the sea canal in Baltiysk, the
Baltic Fleet's base, on Sunday. The parade's guests will see theatrical
re-enactment of a battle in which Soviet troops seized the Pillau fortress
in the end of April 1945.
Concerts and sport competitions will be held in all parks and stadiums
in Baltiysk.
The celebrations in Kaliningrad and Baltiysk will culminate in fireworks.
