SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks got off to a weak start on Tuesday, tracking overnight Wall Street losses, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 1.18 percent, or 25.71 points, to 2,146.6 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Large-cap shares led the decline, with market giant Samsung Electronics falling 1.84 percent and leading carmaker Hyundai Motor dropping 1.7 percent.
U.S. stocks dipped on Monday on a grim manufacturing report that the U.S. economy has grown at its slowest pace in two years. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 0.09 percent, extending its losing streak to seven.
The local currency was trading at 1,051.4 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., down 1.7 won from Monday's close.
