Russian president's chief of staff to meet with Latvian president

RIGA, August 2 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian president's chief of staff
Sergei Naryshkin, who is currently on a working visit to Latvia, on
Tuesday will meet with Latvian President Andris Berzins to discuss
bilateral relations.
Later in the day, Naryshkin will present awards to the organizers and
members of the panel of judges of the New Wave song contest, which has
just ended in the resort city of Jurmala.
"Major topics for future discussions are relations between our
countries, and a possible visit of the Russian president to Latvia," the
press secretary to the Latvian president, Liga Krapane, told Itar-Tass.
She recalled that the Latvian president has invited his Russian
counterpart to visit Latvia.
The press attache of the Russian embassy in Latvia, Ivan Mostinsky,
told Itar-Tass that after a meeting with the Latvian head of state
Naryshkin will attend an awarding ceremony of the organizers and members
of the panel of judges of the New Wave international contest of young pop
singers. The jubilee, tenth, festival was held in Jurmala from July 26
through 31.
Later in the day, Naryshkin will lay flowers to the monument to Soviet
soldiers who defended Riga from the Nazi invaders.
Naryshkin's last visit to Latvia was held in early June 2010. He then
discussed with the Latvian officials preparations for the Latvian
president's first official visit to Russia, which took place in December
2010. He also presented Russian awards to a number of Latvian people of
culture for the contribution to forging Russian-Latvian relations.
