Cuban Speaker Urges Boosting Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Cuban Speaker Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada in a meeting with member of the Iranian parliament's Presiding Board Hossein Sobhaninia called for the further consolidation of cooperation between Havana and Tehran in all fields.
"The relations and cooperation between the two counties should expand and deepen in all fields," Quesada said, expressing the hope that during his future visit to Tehran in October the two sides would find ways to further strengthen ties between the Iranian and Cuban parliaments.

During the meeting, Sobhaninia hailed the Cuban nation for its firm resistance against the US imperialism, and called for unity and further resistance of the Iranian and Cuban revolutionary nations against Washington's expansionist policies.

In relevant remarks, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had earlier underlined the strong relations between Tehran and Havana, and said that the two countries are standing in the same front against imperialism.

"The Cuba-Iran front is strong and the two countries accompanied by other independent and freedom-seeking countries of the world have stood against imperialism and arrogant powers and will defend the rights of the nations," Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with Cuban Vice-President Esteban Lazo in Tehran in June.

He also stressed the necessity for the reinvigoration of cooperation between the two countries in cultural, economic, political and scientific fields, and announced Iran's readiness to transfer its experiences in the different sectors to the Cuban nation.

Ahmadinejad's administration has striven hard to maximize relations with the African continent and the Latin America.

In October, Cuba's Minister of Foreign Relations Bruno Rodriguez Parrila stressed the need for the further expansion and development of ties between his country and Iran, saying that a brilliant future is waiting for the two countries' ties.

Cuba attaches great importance to its ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Parrila told reporters at the time.
