Official: Iran to Continue Economic Growth Despite Enemy Plots

TEHRAN (FNA)- A member of Iran's Expediency Council lashed out the West's dishonest attitude towards Iran and its economy, but meantime underlined that Iran has adopted proper measures to maintain economic growth and thwart enemies' plots against the country's economy.
Speaking to a radio channel on Tuesday, Davood Danesh Jafari, also a former minister of economic affairs and finance, pointed to Iran's program for the current Iranian year, named by the Leader as the "Year of Economic Jihad", and stated that Iran will widen and its approach to thwart enemy plots.
"One of the features of the Year of Economic Jihad is widening and reinvigorating the approach taken by Iran to confront the sanctions and enemies' plots and prevent such pressures from leaving a negative impact on Iran's economic development and progress," he stated.
Underlining that enemies' plots have already proves futile, the official reminded that Iran experienced an average economic growth of 5% last year.
He blasted the western countries for assisting Iran's neighboring countries in exploiting more and more oil and gas from joint fields with Iran while trying to stop investment in Iran's oil and gas sector.
"As regards the oil industry, investment in joint fields sets a priority for Iran in the Year of Economic Jihad," he added.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called the current Iranian year as the 'Year of Economic Jihad', asking the nation to make all-out efforts to accelerate the country's economic progress.
Ayatollah Khamenei also called for all-out jihad-like efforts by the Iranian nation and officials in order to pave the grounds for a decade of economic growth.
Despite the hostile policies and moves of the United States and its European allies, Iran has shown a promising trend of growth in science and economy.
The US-led West accuses Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
Political observers believe that the United States has remained at loggerheads with Iran mainly over the independent and home-grown nature of Tehran's nuclear technology, which gives the Islamic Republic the potential to turn into a world power and a role model for other third-world countries.
