.Japan should speed up ratification of nuclear deal with Russia
TOKYO, August 2 (Itar-Tass) - Japan's parliament has to ratify
agreements on peaceful nuclear cooperation with Russia, Jordan, South
Korea and Vietnam during the current session that will end at the end of
August, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto told a news conference
in Tokyo on Tuesday.
He expressed the hope that these agreements will be approved, which
will allow to ensure nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful use of nuclear
technologies.
Matsumoto explained that Japan's government "sees no difficulties"
with ratification of these agreements following the explosion at
Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. He noted that none of the four partners
expressed negative attitude towards cooperation with Tokyo in this sector
and all of them called for "soonest possible ratification."
On January 8, 2011, President Dmitry Medvedev signed a Federal Law on
Russia's ratification of the agreement with Japan.
