Explosion at POSCO plant kills 1, wounds 2 others

POHANG, South Korea, Aug. 2 (Yonhap) -- An explosion at South Korea's top steelmaker POSCO killed one and left two others injured, police and firefighting authorities said Tuesday.
An explosion happened around 7:17 p.m. at POSCO's stainless steel factory in the port city 374 kilometers southeast of Seoul, local police said.
The explosion killed a 29-year-old contractor of POSCO, identified only by his family name Bae, who was inspecting facilities at the time of the explosion.
Two others were severely wounded but it was not immediately known whether they were in life-threatening condition.
Police and firefighters said the explosion may have been caused by blast-furnace gas, adding that an investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the accident.
