Mil acft makes emergency landing at Yelizovo, Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, August 3 (Itar-Tass) - An IL-76 military
aircraft has made an emergency landing at Yelizovo airport on the
Kamchatka Peninsula owing to failure of one of four engines. There were 23
people on board. No one was hurt. The aircraft sustained no damage, an
official at the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) center for
Kamchatka Territory has told Itar-Tass.
The aircraft of the long-range radar detection system took off from
the runway of the Kamchatka-based airport at 09:52, local time. The first
engine malfunctioned shortly after takeoff. The aircraft began to get
ready for an emergency landing while circling over the airfield and
burning up fuel.
The runway of the airport was prepared to receive the stricken
aircraft. Firemen, medics, and rescuers arrived at the scene. The military
aircraft landed safely at 13:00, local time.
