Mubarak in Defendant's Cage for Trial
TEHRAN (FNA)- The trial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his sons and a number of former regime officials started in the capital city of Cairo minutes ago.
State television has shown former President Hosni Mubarak being wheeled into a defendant's cage on a hospital gurney at the start of his trial.
His sons Alaa and Gamal, ex-Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six former other officials are also in court.
Mubarak was brought by helicopter Wednesday to a Cairo court for the opening of his historic trial on charges of corruption and ordering the killing of protesters during the uprising that ousted him.
Mubarak left the Sharm el-Sheikh hospital earlier in the day under tight security measures, including ambulances and security vehicles.
Meantime, large numbers of people also gathered outside the court.
The trial was previously scheduled to be held in a Cairo convention center but it was later decided to hold the session in a temporary courtroom set up in the police academy.
Some 3,000 soldiers and police have been drafted in to maintain order at Cairo's police academy for the trial.
