Lee sends text message to injured footballer
SEOUL (Yonhap) - President Lee Myung-bak on Thursday sent a text message to encourage injured football player Lee Chung-yong, Cheong Wa Dae said.
The 23-year-old midfielder suffered a double fracture in his lower right leg in a preseason friendly for Bolton in the English Premier League last Sunday. Lee has been ruled out for at least nine months following a hard tackle from Tom Miller of Newport, a non-Premier League club.
"I was quite shocked and worried after hearing about your injury, and it's great to hear that the operation went well," the president wrote, according to Cheong Wa Dae. "It must be a difficult situation, but I, along with the Korean people, am looking forward to your return."
Officials say the president is a big fan of the footballer and that he often stays up late at night to watch live television coverage of Lee Chung-yong's games in England.
