S. Korean builder sentiment falls in July

SEOUL (Yonhap) - Business sentiment among South Korean builders fell slightly in July on seasonal factors amid a sluggish domestic property market, a report said Thursday.
The monthly construction business sentiment index (CBSI) for July fell 3 points to 71.1 from last month, according to the report by the Construction and Economy Search Institute of Korea (CERIK).
A reading below 100 means that pessimists outnumber optimists.
The figure had improved for two straight months in May and June as the housing market recovered in the local cities but then the figure dropped in July.
"The CBSI went down because there were no positive factors to boost the construction market and construction orders decrease in summer," said the CERIK report.
The index has hovered between 65 and 75 this year, as South Korea's property market has been stuck in a prolonged slump since the onset of the 2008 financial crisis.
