FAO enriches knowledge of poultry import inspection for officials

VIENTIANE,AUG (KPL)- United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation FAO in cooperation with the Livestock Extension and Fisheries Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has held a training course on import control and inspection of poultry products and parts for 22 Lao technical officials from 17 border checkpoints across the country, mainly those working along the common borders between Laos and Vietnamese and Thailand.
Held last weekend in Savannakhet province, the training course was designed to enhance the officials’ effort in reducing the outbreak of poultry diseases as the current damage of the diseases is severe to poultry industry.
The import of poultry products and parts from neighbouring countries is prevalent, according to FAO staff.
Head of the Livestock and Fishery Department, Dr. Bounkhuang Khambounhueng attended the training.
