Public Chamber announces creation of association for help to science.

MOSCOW, August 4 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Public Chamber has announced
the creation, under its auspices, of the Russian Association for Support
to Science that will popularise science.
Public Chamber members Yevgeny Velikhov, Mikhail Kovalchuk, Maxim
Viktorov, and Nadezhda Vavilina were elected to the Association's
presidium.
It is expected that not only academicians but also young scientists,
public figures and those who are interested to promote Russian science as
a whole rather than its certain branches will be members of the
Association.
"Sub-divisions of the organisation will be created in the majority of
Russian regions in the next two weeks.
"The main goal of the new organisation is to consolidate the efforts
of its members, citizens and public associations for facilitating the
proliferation of scientific information in society," the Public Chamber
said.
Velikhov stressed, "Such organisations exist around the world and we
can borrow their positive experience on this matter."
"One of the strongest associations like this has been operating
successfully in America for several years," he added.
Velikhov noted that the Association "will work directly with civil
society".
