S. Korea asks China to verify rumors of radiation leak from nuclear sub

SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has asked China to verify a recent report of a radiation leak from a nuclear submarine moored in a port facing the Yellow Sea, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.
The alleged accident took place last Friday as the submarine was being outfitted with electronic equipment, according to Boxun, a U.S.-based Chinese Web site.
Chinese authorities and media have so far refrained from commenting on the leak that was reportedly detected in the northeastern port city of Dalian, Liaoning Province.
"We have asked China for relevant information and are currently waiting for a response," ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae told reporters.
The Yellow Sea is a body of water, across which China and South Korea face each other.
