Russia hopes to resume Rokot launches by yearend.
MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - The Khrunichev state research and
production space centre hopes to resume the launches of Rokot carrier
rockets by the end of the year, the space centre's director general,
Vladimir Nesterov, said on Thursday.
The launches of Rokot were suspended after a failed launch in
February, when the light-class carrier rocket sent a Geo-IK-2 satellite
into an incorrect orbit.
"We encounter difficulties with correcting failures. We've made them
out. I hope that by the end of the year we will launch Rokot," Nesterov
said.
The first launch of the carrier rocket took place at the Baikonur
cosmodrome on November 20, 1990. Rokots were launched from the northern
spaceport sixteen times, including the failed launch in the beginning of
2011. Fourteen launches were recognized fully successful.
