Iran Ups Steel Production

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian industrial official said that the country's steel production has witnessed a remarkable increase during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21, 2011).
Head of Iran's Mineral Industries and Mines Development and Renovation Organization, Massoud Samiei-Nejad said that steel production in Iran hit 4.645 million tons in the first quarter of current Iranian calendar year.

He added that the figure shows a 16.3% increase compared with the figure for the corresponding period last year.

Mobarakeh Steel Company tops the list with an output of two million tons, he said.

Late in July, the World Steel Association reported that Iran's crude steel production has increased by 11.4% in the first half of 2011 compared to the same period in the previous year.

Iran produced 6.527 million tons of crude steel in the first six months of the current year.

Iran was the second biggest steel producer in the Middle East in 2010.

The main steel mills of the country are located in Isfahan and Khuzestan provinces.
