Senior MP Praises Mubarak's Trial for Criticizing US Policies

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator welcomed the trial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his sons and a number of former regime officials, and said Washington's policies towards the regional nations were criticized in the trial.
"The US deprived Palestinians of their most primary rights with the help of the Egyptian dictator, hence trial of Hosni Mubarak is the trial of the US regional policies," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Parviz Sorouri told FNA on Saturday.

He also described Mubarak's trial as a warning to the rulers that have resorted to dictatorial and suppressive measures to silence their opponents, and said the ominous fate of Mubarak is waiting for the other regional dictators.

At a historic trial in the Arab world, ousted Egyptian President Mubarak stood in the dock on Wednesday, months after a revolution in the North African country ended decades-long rule of the overthrown dictator.

Mubarak, lying on a stretcher inside a metal cage, pleaded not guilty to charges of ordering the killing of protesters during the 18-day revolution in February. He also denied charges of corruption and abuse of power.

About 850 protesters were killed during the historic revolution.
