Samsung Electronics to resume fridge production next week
SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Saturday that
its only refrigerator factory in South Korea will resume production next week after being halted for nearly one week due to short parts supplies.
Samsung stopped operation at a refrigerator line and two vacuum cleaner lines at its Gwangju factory on Aug. 3 after its suppliers stopped deliveries of components because of financial difficulties. Gwangju is 329 kilometers southwest of Seoul.
Samsung has agreed to help the parts supplier to resolve its financial difficulties and has arranged to start production at its refrigerator line on Monday, an official at the company's Gwangju plant said.
The plant in Gwangju is Samsung's only fridge production base in Korea.
Samsung refrigerators manufactured in the Korean city are mostly for domestic consumption, with some of its high-end models shipped overseas. Samsung officials declined to disclose other details, including the capacity of its Gwangju plant.
Samsung's two vacuum cleaner lines were normalized on Friday with components in the company's inventory, they said.
