Kuwait keen to have strong ties with Iran’
TEHRAN, Aug. 7 (MNA) – Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jassem al-Kharafi says his country is keen to have strong ties with Iran as a powerful country in the Middle East.
Al-Kharafi made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian ambassador to Kuwait Rouhollah Qahremani-Chabok on Thursday.
Parliamentary relations help cement relations, and in turn, Kuwait is making efforts to enhance its relations with Iran as a powerful country, al-Kharafi said.
“I have always underlined the importance of meetings between the officials of the two countries and advised (Kuwaiti) statesmen to promote cooperation with their Iranian counterparts,” he added.
He went on to say that the parliamentary friendship groups should hold regular meetings to become acquainted with the viewpoints of each other and adopt a common stance toward international issues.
He also said, “Stability in Iran means stability in the whole region.”
He added Kuwait has always been keen to develop ties with Tehran.
He also said, “Unfortunately the level of economic relations between Iran and Kuwait is not in a desirable state, and we should make our efforts to develop relations since strong economic ties will lead to strong political ties.”
In the meeting, Qahremani-Chabok also appreciated the efforts made by the Kuwaiti National Assembly speaker to expand inter-parliamentary relationship.
He called for closer ties between the Iranian and Kuwaiti nations and urged the two countries’ officials to adopt a common stance toward Islamic world’s issues including the issues of Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq.
