Iranian Minister: West Fomenting Hatred against Muslims
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Mohammad Hosseini blasted the efforts made by the West to spark Islamophobia in the world, and called on Muslims to unite and take proper cultural steps to thwart the plot.
"The western thinkers and politicians are taking anti-Islam stances. Hollywood is making movies against Muslims. Today, Islamophobia in the West is an undeniable fact," the Minister said addressing ambassadors of Islamic states here in Tehran on Saturday evening.
"They are fomenting hatred against Muslims," he warned, and added that the West is using pen and picture and cartoon to spark this hatred against Muslims.
The Iranian minister called on Muslim states to display "the real Islam" to the world, and in addition to their political and economic measures, take cultural steps to thwart the western plots and conspiracies.
In relevant remarks in April, Deputy Ambassador of Iran to the United Nations Eshaq Ale-Habib lashed out at the growing trend of insults to Islam in the West, and called on the United Nations to take proper measures to confront the spread of Islamophobia in the western societies.
Ale-Habib called on the UN and its Committee on Information to take practical steps to promote "religious tolerance" and to counter the growing Islamophobic trend in the West, and to stop the desecration of Islam.
Ale-Habib also condemned the recent act of burning Islam's holy book, the Quran, by an extremist US pastor, and said the incident runs counter to the UN's efforts to promote "religious tolerance and mutual respect between religions and cultures."
