Russian teams wins badminton gold in Asia-Pacific Youth Games
VLADIVOSTOK, August 8 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian badminton team has
won the gold medals at the Asia-Pacific Youth Games underway at the Ocean
children's summer camp near Vladivostok in Russia's Far East.
The Russian team consisting of schoolchildren from the republic of
Yakutia, the Khabarovsk territory, and the Sakhalin region, defeated a
team from China, although China's athletes scooped all the medals among
singles. But Russian children won all the medals in missed doubles
categoty.
The Asia-Pacific Youth Games opened in Russia's Far East on July 29.
About 400 young athletes aged from 12 to 15 from Russia, Japan, North
Korea and China are taking part in the Games. They are competing in such
sports as football, volleyball, street basketball, table tennis, track and
field athletics, swimming, chess, and badminton. Russian children have won
football and volleyball competitions.
