Ahmadinejad Views Iran's Media as Role Model for World News Community

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised the Iranian news community for its efforts and endeavors to promote the society's awareness, and reiterated that the Iranian media set a role model for other states.
The president made the remarks on the occasion of the Reporter's Day in Iran and at the end of the cabinet meeting in Tehran on Sunday.
"We hope that Iran's news community be vibrant, motivated and committed to human and divine values as before. I hope that our journalists could provide the international community with a suitable model," he added.
He felicitated all reporters on the occasion of the Reporter's Day.
August 7 has been named the Reporter's Day in Iran to commemorate the martyrdom of correspondent of the Islamic Republic News Agency, Mahmoud Saremi.
In the same day in 1998 Taliban forces captured Mazari Sharif city in Northern Afghanistan. After this incident, 11 Iranian diplomats and 1 Iran's state news agency correspondent disappeared. Unofficial reports from the city indicated that all these men were killed.
Later it was confirmed that 8 of the Iranian diplomats and the Islamic Republic News Agency correspondent were killed by the Taliban militia attacking the consulate. It was also reported that some of the personnel of the consulate were taken hostage by the invaders, but they were later released.
