ROUND-TABLE MEETING HELD IN BAKU

Baku,16 September,(AzerTAj)A round-table meeting was held Tuesday in Baku with the participation of visiting delegation of Political Affairs Committee of the Assembly of Western European Union.

The discussions focused on the ongoing processes in the South Caucasus, prospects for expansion of relations between Azerbaijan and the Assembly of Western European Union and other issues.

Head of the delegation, deputy chairman of the Committee Michael Hancock said the purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with processes in Azerbaijan and to study official Baku`s stance towards the developments in the South Caucasus.

He stressed the meeting was of great importance in terms of enhancing EU-Azerbaijan cooperation. “We were once again assured that Azerbaijan, being a democratic and tolerant country, is a leader in the South Caucasus region, and plays a role of bridge between West and East”, he underscored.

Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Michael Hancock said the settlement of the dispute must be based on strict maintenance of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

State and government officials, MPs, representatives of non-governmental organizations were also present in the meeting.
