Iraqi Kurdish Official Condemns PJAK Terrorist Group

TEHRAN (FNA)- A spokesman of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) lauded the age-old ties between Iran and Iraqi Kurds, and deplored the illegal activities carried out by the anti-Iran terrorist PJAK group on Iraq's soil.
"We have repeatedly said that Kurdistan's soil should be used by no group or country against our neighbors," Iraqi Kurdistan's Armed Forces Spokesman General Jabbar Yawar told FNA.

Meantime, Yawar stated that full control over all border regions is a hard task for his government due to the existence of some remote mountainous regions.

The spokesman reiterated that the PJAK (Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) is not allowed to set up camps in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, and described PJAK's activities in the region as "illegal".

He further lauded the close ties between Iran and Iraq's Kurdistan region, and asked for the further expansion of the relations between the two sides.

In July, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a series of attacks on the bases of the banned group near Iran's border with Iraq.

About 5,000 military forces were deployed in the Northwestern parts of the country along its joint border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

During the operations, the IRGC forces killed, injured and arrested tens of terrorists and destroyed their headquarters in the bordering areas of Alvatan near Sardasht city in Northwestern Iran.

Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour emphasized later that the IRGC operations against PJAK would continue till the terrorist group's full annihilation.

PJAK, a militant Kurdish nationalist group with bases in the mountainous regions of Northern Iraq, has been carrying out numerous attacks in Western Iran, Southern Turkey and the Northeastern parts of Syria where the Kurdish populations live.

The separatist group has been fighting to establish an autonomous state, or possibly a new world country, in the area after separating Kurdish regions from Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria.

Iranian intelligence and security officials have repeatedly complained that Washington provides military support and logistical aids for such anti-Iran terrorist groups.
