Seoul shares up 1.01 pct in late-morning trade

SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.01 percent higher late Wednesday morning, as investors were boosted by the U.S.'s pledge to keep its interest rate near zero, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 18.23 points to 1,819.58 as of 11:20 a.m.
Retail investors snapped up shares to lead the rally, while institutions and foreigners offloaded stocks.
Large-cap shares gained ground, with market bellwether Samsung Electronics climbing 1.24 percent and leading carmaker Hyundai Motor jumping 1.29 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,082.65 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 5.45 won from Tuesday's close.
