Public figures of Russia, Montenegro to get Russian Award prize.
HERCEG NOVI (Montenegro), August 10 (Itar-Tass) - Public figures of
Russia and Montenegro on Wednesday will for the first time receive a new
prize - Russian Award, instituted by an international foundation of the
same name.
The laureates are already known. They were mayor of Herceg Novi Dejan
Mandic, Russian painter, head of the construction of the Russian Cultural
Centre in Montenegro Alexander Belyakov and scientist, chairman of the
Cultural Heritage Foundation Viktor Kartsev. They will receive special
badges of honour and diplomas.
The award ceremony will take place in a unique historic site - the
Kanli Kula fortress of the XVI century that is equipped with a concert
hall. The event will gather about 1,500 spectators. The soiree will end
with the performance of the famous Balkan musician Goran Bregovic and his
orchestra. This artist has for many years worked with Emir Kusturica,
wrote the music for his films "Time of the Gypsies," "Arizona Dream" and
"Underground." Bregovic, 61, has also cooperated with Russian film
directors - he has composed music for the film "The Turkish Gambit."
"Montenegro is firmly among the friendly countries that are closely
historically linked with Russia and that maintained a respectful attitude
towards our country," the award the organisers believe. "Its significant
tourism potential, the similarity of language and the unity of the
Orthodox faith invariably attract more and more Russians here."
According to the Montenegrin Ambassador in Moscow Slobodan Backovic,
this year Russia and Montenegro celebrate the 300th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic relations. "We have no unresolved issues," he
believes. "Now we are doing our best to expand economic ties."
Another promising area for bilateral cooperation is tourism, which
annually brings Montenegro 30 million euros. In 2010, more than 1 million
tourists, of which 120,000 were Russians, visited Montenegro.
The idea of the Russian Award prize is supported by the Russian
Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy to Montenegro. The award founders
hope that it will become an annual event.
