RF deputy sports min to head Russia delegation at summer Olympics.

MOSCOW, August 10 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's Deputy Minister of Sports,
Tourism and Youth Policy Pavel Kolobkov has been appointed head of the
Russian delegation at the 2012 Olympic Games. This was announced at an
executive meeting of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) that was held in
Moscow on Tuesday.
"This is quite a logical decision. Alexander Zhukov discussed with
Vitaly Mutko who could lead the delegation, and they chose me. I have some
experience in sports management, have the knowledge and, most importantly,
the long experience of personal participation in the Olympics," Kolobkov
commented on his appointment to the ROC press service.
According to him, the first steps on the new post will be the
"preparation of the work plan and determining the membership of working
groups on all aspects related to the training and supply of the Olympic
teams."
"We need to determine those responsible, to understand what has been
done to date, to clearly coordinate work of the Ministry of Sports and
ROC. I am sure that there is enough time. The ROC has already done certain
rather large work. Usually, the head of the delegation is appointed during
this period," he stressed.
Kolobkov noted that his new position is "complex and responsible."
"There are many challenges. This is the distribution of accreditation, and
the formation of the delegation. The post of very responsible, and I'm
sure there are no trifles here. Our work is quite inconspicuous, but
everybody must work well like clockwork," he said.
Kolobkov did not name the candidates he sees in the management of the
delegation, referring to the fact that the final list requires approval
from the ROC President Alexander Zhukov and Minister of Sports, Tourism
and Youth Policy, Vitaly Mutko.
It should be noted that Kolobkov did not attend the ROC executive
meeting because he was in the capital of the upcoming Olympics - London,
where the first seminar of the heads of delegations is underway. This is a
mandatory event at which the Games organising committee is accountable to
the participating countries on the progress of preparations for the
competition. Representatives of more that 200 countries have gathered in
the 2012 Olympics capital. It was in London that the debut of Paul
Kolobkov as the head of the Russian delegation took place.
Pavel Kolobkov is the Olympic champion in fencing. In 2000 he won the
"gold" at the Sydney Olympics, won two silver and three bronze medals at
the Olympics. He is five-time world champion and two-time winner of the
European championships. He has repeatedly won an international competition
among epeeists. On October 8, 2010 Kolobkov was appointed RF Deputy
Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy.
