Court to announce sentence to Fisheries Agency official.
MOSCOW, August 10 (Itar-Tass) - The Tverskoi Court of Moscow on
Wednesday is expected to announce a sentence to Assistant Director of the
Russian Federal Agency for Fishery (Rosrybolovstvo) Igor Bakulin and CEO
of a commercial company Alexander Vasilyev.
The 46-year-old officer is accused of "attempted fraud on a large
scale," and director of the SpetsStroy-Monolit Invest company Vasilyev, 49
- of "aiding and abetting the attempted fraud."
According to the prosecutors, in February 2010 Bakulin wanted to get
from Ivars Grunsbergs - a Latvian citizen representing the interests of
several fishing companies, money for their victory in a tender held on
March 31, 2010 for "the distribution of quotas for the right to conclude
an agreement on fixing catch (fishing) quotas for aquatic biological
resources," that is, Pacific salmon in the economic zone of Russia. The
official demanded 250 thousand US dollars for this service.
"Some time later Bakulin conveyed to the businessman false information
about his actions thanks to which the organisations he represented
received four quotas," the Prosecutor General's Office said earlier. "He
later reduced the amount of the compensation to 200 thousand US dollars
and said that the money was to be passed to Vasilyev."
