China's trade surplus widens in July

HONG KONG, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- China's trade surplus widened sharply in July from a month earlier as exports continue to grow, the Chinese customs office said Wednesday.
According to the General Administration of Customs, the country's trade surplus stood at US$31.5 billion last month, compared with $22.3 billion in the previous month.
Exports rose 20.4 percent from a year ago to a record monthly high of $175.1 billion and imports grew 22.9 percent to $143.64 billion.
Both exports and imports grew at the faster pace last month. In June, exports grew 17.9 percent and imports gained 19.3 percent.
The larger trade balance was largely supported by steady demand from the emerging economies, market watchers said.
