Hyundai Merchant to spend 700 bln won on container ships
SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., a South Korean shipping firm, said Wednesday that it will spend around 700 billion won (US$647 million) for five new container ships.
The ships, which can each carry 13,000 20-foot containers, will be constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., a local shipbuilder, the shipping line said in a regulatory filing.
Hyundai Merchant said it will receive the vessels beginning in 2014, and the vessels will be mobilized for a Europe-Asia route, it said.
Shares of Hyundai Merchant were trading at 23,650 won on the Seoul bourse as of 2:00 p.m., up 2.16 percent.
