Senior MP: Mubarak Regime's Collapse Endangers US Interests
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator underlined the effect of the Egyptian people's revolution on the regional equations, and said Washington lost its interests after the collapse of Mubarak regime in the North African country.
"We believe that when the Mubarak regime collapsed in Egypt, the US lost its interests there," Head of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said, noting that Iran considers its ties with the country established earlier.
Boroujerdi said that Iran is ready to make its experience available to Egypt.
He made the remark in an Iftar ceremony at Iran's Interests Section in Cairo attended by a number of Egyptian political figures.
Boroujerdi, who is currently in Cairo to present invitation letters to an international seminar on Palestine to be held in Tehran added that given the current situation in Egypt, Iran is not in a hurry to establish official ties with the country.
After the collapse of Hosni Mubarak's regime, the Iranian and Egyptian officials voiced their interest in the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries and Salehi officially invited the then Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Al-Arabi to pay a visit to Tehran.
The Iranian foreign minister and his former Egyptian counterpart also held a meeting in Bali, Indonesia.
During the meeting which took place on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the two diplomats conferred on ways to promote the bilateral relations between Tehran and Cairo, and stressed the need for continued consultations in this regard.
Al-Arabi had earlier announced that Cairo would soon open a new page with Iran.
Al-Arabi who was replaced with Mohamed El-Orabi became the next Arab League Secretary.
