6,459 newspapers and magazines published in Turkey in 2010


ANKARA (A.A) - August 10, 2011 - Nearly 6,500 newspapers and magazines were published in Turkey in 2010. 
Turkish board of Statistics, TurkStat, released results of its Printed Media Survey on Wednesday.
Accordingly, number of newspapers and magazines increased 6.4 percent to 6,459 in 2010. Magazines accounted for 57 percent of all publication. 
TurkStat has been carrying out the survey since 2005 to assess the general structure of newspapers and magazines published in the country on national, regional and local level. 
According to the results, 90 percent of dailies is local, 3.3 percent is regional and 6.7 percent national.
As for magazines, 35.8 percent is local, 7.2 percent is regional and 57 percent is national. 
Total annual circulation of newspapers and magazines increased 13.4 percent to 2,571,694,304 in 2010. Newspapers accounted for 94.6 percent of total circulation. 
Dailies accounted for 90.1 percent of total circulation of newspapers while monthlies accounted for 47.4 percent and weeklies accounted for 19 percent of total circulation of magazines.
Total number of employees in the printed media reached 59,670 including 16,912 women.
