Seoul shares open 4 pct lower on U.S. losses
SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks began sharply lower on Thursday, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) opened 72.32 points lower, or 4 percent, at 1,733.92.
U.S. stocks plunged on Wednesday on concerns over worries that the European debt crisis may spill over into the health of the global banking system.
The local currency opened at 1,087.1 won to the U.S. dollar, down 7.1 won from Wednesday's close.
