RF, PRC, Mongolia, Kazakhstan set up Altai Council of Rectors.  

    BARANAUL, August 11 (Itar-Tass) -- The Council of Rectors of
institutes of higher education of the Bigger Altai has been created on the
basis of educational establishments uniting six transborder regions  - -
the Altai Territory, the Republic of Altai, the Xinjiang-Uygur Autonomous
Region of China, the Bayan-Ulgiisky and Khondsky Aimaks of Mongolia and
the East-Kazakhstanian Region.
    As ITAR-TASS learnt at the administration of the Altai Territory, this
council will function within the framework of the International
Coordination Council "Our Common Home - Altai." The Council of Rectors is
headed by two co-chairmen - - rector of the Altai State Technical
University Lev Korshunov and rector of the Gorno-Altai State University
Valery Babin.
    "The creation of an a association of young scientists with the aim of
their support, launch of a project of bi-diploma education within the
framework of the Altai region and creation of a scientific and technical
fund of the Bigger Altai will be among the first tasks of the Council,"
the administration's spokesman said. Scientific circles of the Altai
region plan to pool their efforts to study such problems as the influence
of the changing climate on the Altai biosphere, development of
untraditional and smaller energy, as well as production of ecologically
healthy agricultural produce and biofuel.
