PKK Claims Responsibility for Blasting Iran-Turkey Gas Pipeline

TEHRAN (FNA)- The PKK terrorist group claimed the responsibility for blasting a gas pipeline in Eastern Turkey which transfers Iran's gas supplies to its Northwestern neighbor.
Turkish News Agency Jihan announced that PKK on Saturday issued a statement on its website in which it admitted sabotage on the gas pipeline, and said that the explosion in the pipeline five kilometers from Agri city had been done by its elements.

It also said that the members of the group had destroyed four vehicles, including one construction vehicle.

Meanwhile, the group also claimed responsibility for another blast on August 3, 2011 in Boutash Pipeline in Turkey's Mardin province.

Iran on Friday offered to help Turkey with repairing a pipeline which was damaged by an explosion.

Gas flow in the Iran-Turkey pipeline was temporarily halted after an explosion damaged the pipeline in Turkey's Eastern province.

Many units of firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the pipeline blast, and valves were closed soon after the explosion. There were no causalities in the explosion.

Firefighters were ultimately able to put out the blaze, which had spread hundreds of meters wide with flames that leapt tens of meters into the air.
