Phongsaly estimates damage caused by Nockten at 16 billion kip

VIENTIANE,AUG.(KPL)- Phongsaly authorities have estimated the damage caused by typhoon Nockten at over 16 billion kip.
Over 880 ha of farmland of people in five village development clusters of Nam Nga, Khounglouk, Phonsay, Parkpae and Souphon in Meuang Mai district, Phongsaly were damaged by flooding caused by the typhoon which hit Laos on 30-31 July.
Besides to damages to properties and farmland of people, the natural disaster also caused damage to over 50 irrigation systems and disconnected road communication for residents of many villages including Houamuek, Nalam, in Meuangha district.
On 2-3 August, Vice-Governor of Phongsaly Mr. Aphou Aly visited the flooding areas in Meung Mai and donated 10 million kip as relief assistance for flood victims in the localities.
