RF transport oversight authority to end probe into MS Bulgaria
MOSCOW, August 15 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's federal transport oversight
authority (Rostransnadzor) on Monday will end the investigation into the
MS Bulgaria shipwreck of July 10 and will submit a report to the Russian
Investigations Committee.
The Bulgaria pleasure boat, which was on a Bolgary-Kazan river voyage,
sank in a storm in the Kuibyshevskoye dam lake, three kilometers away from
the shore, on July 10. The ship built in Czechoslovakia in 1955 tilted to
the right and sank within minutes. According to the latest information,
there were 201 people aboard, some of them unregistered. Seventy-nine were
rescued. The officially confirmed death toll is 122 people - 28 children,
72 women and 22 men.
"Rostransdazor's commission investigating into the Bulgaria shipwreck
will end its activity on August 15. The commission is verifying the
compliance with law by all the participants in the accident," a
Rostransnadzor spokesman told Itar-Tass. "Materials of the investigation
will be submitted to the investigation agencies."
"Administrative measures will be taken after the investigation is
over, and charges will be brought against officials for improper
performance of their duties," the spokesman added.
