TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to pay a visit to Tajikistan late in August in a bid to inaugurate several joint economic projects in the Central Asian state.
Iran's Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali Asqar She'rdoust said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will inaugurate a number of projects during his Tajikistan visit to take place in late August.

Outlining the objectives of the Iranian President's visit to Tajikistan, he said the President is scheduled to inaugurate the first phase of the Sangtuda-2 dam and its hydroelectric power plant.

He will also finalize a contract on construction of a power plant near Zarafshan river by Iranian engineers and experts, the Iranian diplomat added.

The construction project of the dam on Vakhsh river as well as its 220-megawatt power plant called Sangtuda-2 started by an Iranian company in early 2006.

According to She'rdoust, management of the dam which will produce one billion kw/h electricity once fully implemented will go to Tajikistan after 12 years of implementation by Iran.
