Turkish aid organization Red Crescent's president resigns

ANKARA (A.A) – August 15, 2011 - Turkish aid association Red Crescent's President Tekin Kucukali has resigned from his post on Monday.
Kucukali resigned due to his health problems.
According to bylaws of Red Crescent, Central Executive Board will hold an extraordinary meeting, and decide on date of an extraordinary congress meeting to elect a new president at latest in two months.
Kucukali has been the president of Red Crescent since 2005.
Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) is the largest humanitarian organization in Turkey and is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The organization was founded under the Ottoman Empire on June 11, 1868 and was named "Hilal e Ahmar". It was renamed Kizilay by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1935, after the foundation of the Republic of Turkey. Like its counterparts in other countries, it is a non-governmental organization. All Red Cross and Red Crescent organisations within the former Ottoman territories are the successors of the Turkish Red Crescent.
