Hyundai Motor's July sales in India fall 11.5 pct

SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's largest carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. saw its sales in India drop 11.5 percent on-year in July mainly due to weak overall market demand, industry sources said Tuesday. Hyundai sold 26,000 units in the South Asian country last month with its market share reaching 19 percent, which made the company place third after market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Hyundai's July market share was down from 21.1 percent in the previous month. Maruti Suzuki's sales tumbled 31 percent on-year last month, with shipments of Tata Motors, the No. 3 car seller in India, plunging 43.1 percent, according to the sources. Car sales in India declined 2.2 percent on-year to 248,000 units last month, the first drop in 26 months, they said.
