Seoul shares down 0.14 pct in late-morning trade

SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.14 percent lower late Wednesday morning, weighed down by jitters over European fiscal problems, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 2.65 points to 1,877.22 as of 11:20 a.m.
Large-cap exporters led the decline as market giant Samsung Electronics fell 0.8 percent and top carmaker Hyundai Motor lost 1.72 percent.
Leading mobile carrier SK Telecom, however, rose 5.02 percent on reports that South Korea's mobile phone makers will provide their first fourth-generation (4G) smartphones only to that company.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,073.55 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., down 3.55 won from Tuesday's close.
