Hanwha Engineering wins US$175 mln deal from Philippines

SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corp. said Wednesday that it has clinched a US$175 million deal to build a domed concert hall in the Philippines.
Under the deal with Filipino Christian foundation INC, Hanwha Engineering will build a 50,000-seat "Philippine Arena" with a floor area of 74,000 square meters on the outskirts of its capital Manila.
Hanwha Engineering said it broke ground for the indoor arena on Wednesday and the construction will be completed by 2014.
The South Korean builder said the deal will help the company tap into the construction market of Southeast Asian countries.
Hanwha Engineering is now engaged in five overseas projects worth $750 million, including a power plant construction deal in Saudi Arabia.
