Hanoi willing to handle Thai Ha parish's legitimate needs
Hanoi (VNA) -Hanoi People's Committee is willing to consider priests and religious followers' legitimate needs for expanding worship places or holding religious practice in line with law, a municipal official has said.
Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Hong Khanh made the
affirmation while working with representatives of Thai Ha parish on Sept. 17
on petitions lodged by some priests from the parish relating to the land use
right at 178 Nguyen Luong Bang street and security and social order in
the area.
The municipal leader affirmed the State has managed the land area at 178
Nguyen Luong Bang street and allocated it to the Chien Thang Garment Joint
Stock Company for use since 1961 as stated in Decision 76.
According to Article 1 of the National Assembly Resolution 23, Thai Ha
parish priests' claims for the land use right at the Chien Thang Garment
Joint Stock Company are groundless for settlement, Khanh said.
To handle the parish's needs and petitions, the Hanoi official asked the
Priest in charge of Thai Ha parish and parishioners to remove statues,
crosses, altars, and huts they illegally erected on the land area of the
Chien Thang Company to the worship place of Thai Ha church.
He assigned the municipal department for natural resources and environment,
whose representatives were present at the working session, to quickly carry
out procedures to recover the entire land area at 178 Nguyen Luong Bang
street for hand-over to the Dong Da district authorities for management
and formulation of a public work construction project.
Khanh also ordered municipal inspectors to continue to probe into violations
of concerned organisations and individuals, stressing the city will severely
punish violators once they are confirmed in accordance with law.
Regarding security and social order at the area, the Hanoi official
asked Priest in charge of Thai Ha parish Vu Khoi Phung to advise
parishioners and other priests not to have aggressive actions in violation
of law.
He also demanded prompt removal of the statues and crosses and religious
practice at the orthodox worship place, not at the land area at 178 Nguyen
Luong Bang street .
On the legal proceedings against several parishioners for their breaches of
law, Khanh stressed, "whoever they are, they, first of all, are citizens and
must abide by law."
He said the law enforcement agencies were handling violations in accordance
with law.-Enditem
